3 Simple Ways to Use Patterned Paper

Alexandra Renke patterned paper is designed to create elegant and simple designed cards in a snap! Today we have 3 simple but stunning ways to quickly make beautiful cards.

  • Add a foiled greeting for a sophisticated look!
Before cutting into patterned paper select a white space on the patterned paper for the greeting. Place the greeting in position following the *rule of thirds composition guidelines for maximum impact.
*Rule of Thirds – mentally divide the image using 2 equally spaced horizontal and 2 equally spaced vertical lines. Position important elements where the points intersect.
  • Add interest to patterned paper by cutting it and exposing the card base beneath. Chose a random or geometric pattern that enhances the paper you are using.
TIP: To determine which areas of larger sized patterned paper will suit a card front, create a template with an A2 opening out of plain cardstock. Move it over your patterns until you find the areas that will provide the biggest impact. Save the smaller bits for cutting out die cut shapes such as the butterflies shown.
Add sparkle to patterned paper using the Nuvo Aqua Shimmer Pen.
  • Create your own patterned paper using stamps! Use patterned paper to create a recessed or popped up focal point.
Create a directional spatter pattern by placing paper towel over areas to avoid color hitting those areas. Using a watercolor brush and Kuretake Gansai Gem Blue this ray-like pattern was created.
A watercolor look can easily be emulated by inking stamps in multiple colors. Lightly mist inked stamps with water and watch for ink to gently pool. Remove excess water from stamp base only and stamp. If paper buckles, gently iron paper after it has dried on a low setting.
Sticky Specs is an adhesive designed for delicate die cuts. This adhesive makes it simple to stack layers of cuts.
Layer multiple cuts of the same die cut to create a recessed card front.
