Hi there! Emily Midgett here with you sharing some more inspiration for our 12 Tags of Christmas series here at Ellen Hutson! This year, our projects are themed around our favorite Christmas songs, and one of my all-time favorite Christmas songs is “It Came Upon A Midnight Clear.” The image of peace that this song conjures for me reminds me of my childhood, traipsing from one family holiday gathering to the next in the wintry night air. I’ve created two projects inspired by this song, so let’s get started with the details!

For the first tag, I began by die cutting the Shipping Tags dies from the Essentials By Ellen line. I love that they die cut four at a time, because (if your die cutting machine looks anything like mine) the backs of the die cuts look a bit worse for wear. Becuase the Shipping Tags dies cut four at a time, you can easily adhere two together, back to back, to create a nice smooth surface, front and back! I die cut the Shipping Tags dies from some Nautical cardstock from Hero Arts.

I then cut the Layering Snowflakes dies from Honey Bee Stamps from both sparkling white glitter cardstock as well as plain white cardstock. I adhered them to the dark blue tag, snipping off the die cuts that hung over the edges. I also added some Pearl White jewels from Pretty Pink Posh to add a bit more sparkle.

Finally, I white embossed the “peace” greeting from Mondo Amaryllis onto a strip of some more Nautical cardstock. I adhered it to the tag front using some foam adhesive, allowing the edges to hang over a bit. Finally, I added some crisp, white, silk ribbon to the top for the loop.

For my second tag, I wanted to create a shaker tag. Nothing says “something special inside” better than a sparkling shaker tag! I used the same simple color combination for my shaker tag, combining the dark Nautical cardstock with crisp white cardstock. I began by die cutting the Hero Arts Layering Snow Globe base from some Nautical cardstock, then die cutting the upper portion from another piece of Nautical cardstock, this time adding the circular window die. I added some acetate behind the window to create my shaker, as well.

I then used the interior dies from the Layering Snow Globe die set to die cut the snowy winter scene and deer from some plain white cardstock. I used a blending brush to blend some Sea Salt Reactive Ink at the top of the solid tag base to create a blustery, cloudy effect, then dotted some snowflakes in the background using a white gel pen. I layered the white die cuts over the snowy background, then filled the shaker with some Sparkling Clear sequins from Pretty Pink Posh. I stamped another greeting from Mondo Amaryllis onto a small rectangle of white cardstock using Navy ink, then die cut the detail from some Hero Arts White Woodgrain Cardstock, as well as a long strip of woodgrain cardstock to create a loop to attach the tag to the gift.

Well, that’s all for my projects today! I love all things Christmas, and being inspired by one of my favorite Christmas songs really got my creative wheels turning! I encourage you to use your favorite holiday songs to jumpstart your creativity! Thanks so much for stopping by, and have a marvelous day.

Your choice of Christmas Carol and accompanying tags – which are gorgeous – have transported me to Christmas’ past at my grandparents’ farm in Manitoba. The dark sky, the snowflakes, the stars…I loved gazing into the night from the warmth of the farmhouse. Love your tags that kindled treasured memories!
