Hi there and welcome to Day 11 of the 12 Tags of Christmas! I’m so glad you’re here!

Today’s theme is White Christmas, and I have a tag to share inspired by the sisters in the White Christmas movie. This movie is such a classic! Bing Crosby gets me every time and I still get a bit teary watching it. So I had to use the Voices in My Head set to create one of the sisters – just had to be done!

I thought it would be the perfect day to talk about white watercolor. Full confession: white watercolor had me so confused for the longest time! I didn’t quite know what to do with it. Watch this quick tip video for the scoop plus a dreamy technique:

TIPS & TRICKS:

  • Mix white watercolor with ANY other color to get a pastel version – such a simple way to get more from your supplies.
  • White watercolor is opaque , so you’ll want to heat emboss your stamped images so they stay sharp. My fave way to do this is to use a black pigment ink like VersaFine onyx black and then heat emboss it with clear powder.
  • For best results, splatter white watercolor while the paper is still wet and has a sheen to it. If the paper is too wet the effect isn’t as pronounced. If the paper is too dry you’ll get sharper splatters – which can also look like snow!

Here are the colors highlighted in the video:

  • Chinese white: you can get similar shades of colors mixing other paints with titanium white, however, Chinese white will blossom easily when dropped in – and those beautiful blossoms are what gives that frosty look!
  • Quinacridone coral: this is a warm red that I love to use on flowers, but it also makes a great Christmas red.
  • Phthalo green (blue shade): mix this with white for a minty green – shown here on the holly.
  • Quinacridone rose: this cool pink mixes with white to give a beautiful blush that’s perfect for cheeks.

May your days be merry and bright, and may all your Christmases be white!
