Mother’s Day Card Ideas + Altenew 6th Anniversary Blog Hop Day 3

Happy Anniversary, Altenew! We’re so excited to be joining your 6 year anniversary celebration! Emily is here with some FABULOUS Mother’s Day projects using Altenew & Essentials by Ellen!

I’m sharing a Wave Roses Themed Collection of cards, tags and a trinket-teasure box in celebration of all the amazing women in our lives. Mixing and Matching supplies and creating multiple projects is a fun way to stretch your stamps, dies and stencils. I’ve included a few collection building tips and tricks in my post today.

My Prep Steps for Creating Collections:

  1. Pick a Color Scheme or two (Pink and Yellow). Select your inks and coloring materials to work with (Zig Clean Color Brush Markers & Distress Oxide Inks).
  2. Die Cut elements from Black and White Card Stock for mix and matching (Two-In-One Box, Skinny Stripes and Wavy Outlines)
  3. With a Stamp Press, stamp several floral images at once to Bristol Smooth Cardstock (this is what I used for all my Zig Coloring).
  4. Heat Emboss images all at once. This way your heat gun is nice and hot so you can create crisp embossed images.
  5. Paint/Color and fussy cut or die cut your stamped images and leave in a dish to pull together on your cards, tags and boxes.

Painting the Roses

The Wavy Rose images are all painted with Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers. For a soft watercolor effect, I applied pigment from several Zig colors to my media mat, added water to the color and then “washed” the color to the paper. To keep the color wash in “place”, I stamped and heat embossed all the images with Altenew Translucent Pearl or Pure White Crisp Embossing Powder.

Greens: Light Green-041, Turquoise Green-042, Emerald Green-048

Pinks: Deep Red-260, Pale Pink-028, Pale Rose-230, Blush-069, Peach Pink-202, Pink Haze-201

Yellows: Yellow-050, Light Yellow-051, Bright Yellow-052, Pale Yellow-055

Pretty in Pink

I thought it would be fun to have a matching card, tag and treasure box for my Mom to open that I could easily send in the mail. I created the treasure box using the Essentials by Ellen Two-in-One Box, Black Card Stock and Be Creative Tape. I used the Floral Garden stencil with Spun Sugar and Mowed Lawn Distress Oxide Inks to decorate the stitched rectangle side panels. For the box top, I heat embossed the “a little something for you” sentiment from the Wavy Roses Stamp Set to a long/skinning stitched rectangle. Then I adhered the rectangle inside the box for a little extra surprise. For the box top, I applied spun sugar distress oxide ink to a long/skinny stitched rectangle and adhered a small wavy rose with foam tape. The Two-In-One Box die includes a gift tag, that I heat embossed Mom from the Amazing Women stamp set and added a painted rose and its petals.

For the pretty pink Mother’s Day Card, I die-cut the Skinny Stripes at an angle to a white card front and then adhered it to a black card stock panel for a modern black and white striped background. I stamped the sentiment on an angle with Altenew Obsidian Pigment Ink and adhered the Wavy Rose images with foam tape. A very simple assembly with lots of pop.

Sunshine Yellow

For my first card, I added a Wavy Rose Outline die cut to my watercolor rose image. I die-cut the Skinny Stripes to a white card panel and also die cut on a black card stock panel. I saved the black panel for another day but I used the little stripes and added them to the white Skinny Stripes panel. Then I adhered the yellow wavy roses to the skinny stripe background and stamped the sentiment with Obsidian Pigment Ink.

*The Obsidian Pigment Ink is extremely crisp for small details and sentiments. A new favorite!

My second card came together in minutes using the Floral Garden Stencil. This stencil is a dream because no masking is required to add both the floral petals and greenery. First I positioned the stencil with the greenery side to my card panel and I applied Mowed Lawn and Lucky Clover Distress Oxide Inks. Using the stencil as a guide, I positioned the florals over the greenery and added the petals with Scattered Straw and Mustard Seed Distress Oxide Ink. I had a stitched rectangle left over from the Two-in-One box, I stamped and heat embossed Mom and sentiment using white embossing powder. For a little extra pop, I added a white rectangle frame and adhered it to the top-center of the stenciled card panel.

So there we are friends, a Wavy Rose Inspired Mother’s Day collection of cards, tags and trinket-treasure box. I hope you enjoyed my projects today and it inspires you to mix, match and stretch your stamps, stencils and metal dies in fun new ways.
