The Essentials by Ellen release is quickly approaching and today Ellen Hutson Design Ambassador, Adelina (a_starace on Instagram) is sharing a Fall and a Winter idea using the new Birch Trees Cover Plate coming out on October 9th, 2020.
Hello all! Today I’m sharing a Fall/Halloween and a Winter/Christmas card using the new Birch Trees Cover Plate that’s part of the October Essentials by Ellen release.
I speak about this often, but it’s worth mentioning again. When you’re working on cards you want to mass produce, keep your card “recipe” simple. I’m implementing that idea again for these cards.
2 layers of one color cardstock + 2 cover plate dies + 1 stamp set
This first card uses the new Birch Trees Cover Plate, Twirling Flurries Texture Plate and the Halloween Magic stamp set. These new nature/woodland dies are the perfect match for setting all kinds of spooking fall scenes.
I decided to add a little visual interest to today’s projects by making them shaker cards. The frame of the new Birch Trees Cover Plate makes turning a card into a shaker SUPER easy.
I applied my clear plastic to the die cut piece using On Point Glue. If you’re not familiar with this adhesive, it’s perfect for these sorts of projects. It also works great when adhering sequins – a little goes a long way!
I’m using some black star sequins by HAI Supply for my shaker. These are my “go-to” for Halloween cards. They are the perfect scale for shakers. I decided to have the “magic spells” book floating in the shaker. How spooky and fun is that?! *laugh*
There you have it – the perfect Halloween card. While the new Halloween Magic stamp set was designed with Halloween in mind … the owl, moth and moon are perfect for creating a lovely Fall themed card.
This next card uses the same card “recipe” as above for an elegant, Winter themed Christmas card. For this card I used the new Birch Trees Cover Plate, Twirling Flurries Texture Plate and the Deer Couple dies. I paired these die cut pieces with the Clear Saucers by HAI Supply.
Rather than pop-up the die cut Deer Couple with foam tape, I decided to cut them from 110lb cardstock and adhere 4 layers together. I glued them together using the Lawn Fawn glue tube.
I put the shaker together in the same way I put the previous card together. In addition to the sequins, I added a little WOW glitter for some sparkle.
Without a sentiment this card could easily be a used as a Winter themed card for a birthday, just saying hello or just about any other sentiment.
I added the “Merry Christmas” sentiment from the Bear Ware 2 stamp set to make it a Christmas themed card. I stamped the sentiment on 110lb cardstock and popped it up with foam tape.
I wanted to keep this color scheme monochromatic, but a cute little red jewel on the nose of one of the deer and this card quickly becomes a whimsical holiday card!
Pairing the Birch Trees Cover Plate with the Twirling Flurries Texture Plate is the perfect “something” for creating all sorts of elegant Winter and Fall themed scenes. I think you’re going to love them!

Thanks, Barbara-Jean!
Fabulous cards! Sounds like a simple recipe with few supplies but results in a wow. I especially like the Birch Trees Cover Plate and how it leaves an open space for images, sentiments, etc. Will add this to my wish list.
Thanks, Linda! It’s a great one to add to your collection of dies.
