Cardmaking, Die Cutting, EBE by Julie Ebersole, Essentials By Ellen, Hello Monday

USE HINGED NUMBER DIES TO MAKE TABS

One way to celebrate a specific occasion, is to highlight the date!  Julie is here with a unique way of marking the date by using “hinged” dies to create number “tabs”!

Hello, there—it’s Julie!  It is not uncommon to refer to specific holidays, i.e. Valentine’s Day, or special events, such as a birthday or anniversary, by the date they occur, so why not incorporate this very concept into your card design?

TIPS:

  • A paper trimmer with a nice, sharp straight blade makes it easy to cut lines that start on one side of a shape, then continue on the other, but you can also use a craft knife and a metal edge ruler to do the same.
  • Trim down your paper panels if you plan to layer as shown in the video; it will reduce bulk and weight.
  • Low profile foam adhesive dots allow you to layer quite a bit, but keep your project from getting too thick.
  • Washi tape is removable and makes a great “guideline” for aligning dies.  No washi tape? Use a straight edge and a pencil to lightly draw a guideline that can be easily erased afterwards.
  • For this particular design, it helps to work from right to left.
  • If you don’t have NUVO drops, self-adhesive enamel dots are an easy substitute!

this makes my mid-century-modern-loving heart sing, Julie! Love the colors and the blocks….but it took some time to put together. Love it. Looks like you are working on a magnetic surface? How is that and what are those cool-looking magnets? Just wondering…….thanks for this, I’ll give a version of it a try. Love ya.
