Grab a cuppa hot chocolate, put on some Ella Fitzgerald and join me in making some snowy tags with all kinda texture!
Oh, the weather outside is frightful
But the fire is so delightful
And since we’ve no place to go
Let it snow TAGS! Let it snow TAGS! Let it snow TAGS! 🙂
If you know me, you’ll know that I love watercolors — they’re such a beautiful way to add color.
I’ve really been in to Daniel Smith Permanent Alizarin Crimson this holiday season as it’s super reactive with water so it’s easy to force blooms and get dramatic effects. Talk about texture! A granulating green would also be fun here.
I started out by doing some washes with that lovely Permanent Alizarin Crimson on watercolor paper, then used the Farmhouse Tags to die cut a big pile o’ tags. I used Canson XL but Arches Rough would be awesome here. Tip: don’t worry if your paper warps from the watercolor, the die cutting process will flatten ’em right out.
I could sit and listen to carols and watercolor all day!
Next I white heat embossed the solid berries from Holiday Springs on black cardstock for a second snowy texture. Tip: get more from your supplies by thinking outside the box sleigh! 🙂
While I had the embossing supplies out I went ahead embossed some sentiments on those long skinny Farmhouse tags.
Then I used the A2 Piercing Plate and A2 Piercing Plate 2 (say that 12 times fast!) to add another texture to some of the tags. Just love how the two sizes look together.
Now for the most wonderful textures of all: winter white felt snowflakes cut with the Snowflakes dies and glittery tag toppers! OH YES!
I finished off the snowflakes with a clear droplet — and that was that!
Texture Recap
Here’s a recap of all of those tempting textures:
- Smooth watercolor washes — try to force some blooms for even more texture!
- Snowy white felt
- Sparkly glitter paper
- White on black embossing
- Last but not least, the texture added from the A2 Piercing Plates!
I can’t wait to tie these on gifts — or even hang them from the tree! Thanks so much for joining me, and hope you have a wonderful holiday. — xoxo, Lisa
