How to Add EASY Color Blocking to Backgrounds!

Have you ever tried Color Blocking? Today Therese shares 2 projects using some fun bright blocks of color to create her backgrounds!

Hi it’s Therese and today I am sharing a matching card and gift tag. And both of them have a color blocked background, if you have never tried this, it is very easy to do!

Did you know it’s National Craft Month? I am sharing a peek into my crafty space, scroll down to see what I have recently added!

Today I used the Painted Florals Stamp Set and sentiments from the Casual Greeting Stamp Set.

My card is a sidefold 4 1/4″ square. I added adhesive to the front panel and simply layed wide strips of colored cardstock overtop.

It was easy then to flip the card over and cut away the excess with a long bladed pair of scissors. You can choose any combination of colors suit your project.

Next I stamped some flowers and leaves using the MISTI.

And it was easy to cut them out using the co-ordinating Painted Florals Dies.

I used a combination of tape runner and foam square to add dimension to my bouquet and sentiment.

To create the tag, I die cut the Farmhouse Tags die twice, both from white cardstock and Mushroom. This allowed me to use the colored cardstock over the tab of the tag.

Then I simply added some more wide pieces of colored cardstock to create the blocking and cut this away as I did on the card design.

TIP: If you prefer, you could also use a paper trimmer to cut away the excess cardstock.

Both of my designs also got a little spattering of Clear Droplets.

And all togther now…

Now, for a little sneak peek into my crafty space. This is kinda new for me, I decided to play with the ‘pegboard’ idea that I have seen other crafters use and I love that I can display all of this color and that it’s also practical.

I bought this one from Ikea but you can buy similar ones from many hardware stores. Thanks so much for stopping by today, I hope you are inspired to try some ‘Color Blocking’.
