Looking for some quick (under an hour, including die cutting AND stitching) and easy fall decor? Dress up your shelves, mantel or windows with Julie’s colorful, felt garland! Best of all, no sewing machine required!
TIPS:
- If you’re doing a gradient effect, like Julie did, determine how long your garland needs to be (allow a little extra for creating hanging loops) and pre-plan the colors; stacking your felt shapes by color, in the order you plan to string them really helps speed up the process.
- You can cut through two layers of Essentials by Ellen felt at a time with a low profile die. Make sure to use the metal shim to ensure enough pressure and achieve a clean cut. Additional card stock shims may be necessary, depending on your machine’s calibration.
- A “big eye” needle helps for stringing felt shapes and can accommodate heavier threads like embroidery floss.
- You can machine-stitch felt shapes together to create garlands, but if you change your mind or you’re unhappy with the order of shapes or colors, hand-stitching allows you to easily pull them off and re-do.
- This is also a very easy project to take on-the-go.
