DIY Felt Ornaments with Essentials by Ellen

Do you want to create a sweet & handmade holiday season this year? Start with these adorable DIY felt ornaments!

We are delighted to have our friend Nichol here to share how she made these amazing felt ornaments!

Hello friends! Today I’m so excited to be sharing some brand new felt ornament designs with you! Felt ornaments are my very favorite ornaments to make and the Essentials By Ellen Collection has two brand new die sets that make creating felt ornaments a snap. Today I am showcasing the new Sew Cute Ornaments dies (and even including the new Sew Cute Snowman dies) and ways to dress up the designs with additional dies, sequins, seed beads, french knot stitches, and removable paper gift tags. Let’s get started!

For the snowman ornament, I die cut the Sew Cute Ornament pieces from Caribbean and Dark Tinsel Wool Felt. The Sew Cute Snowman pieces were die cut from Winter White, Tangerine, Charcoal, Camel, and Christmas Red Wool Felt. The Home and Hearth heart was die cut from Sakura Wool Felt.

The eyes, carrot nose, heart, and buttons were hot glued in place on the snowman. The scarf ends were fringed with scissors and pink french knots were sewn in placed to adorn the scarf.

The snowman was sewn to the ornament front with white embroidery floss and the excess trimmed off to match the edge of the ornament. The arms of the snowman were hot glued to secure.

Snowflake sequins were sewn around the snowman with seed beads.

The two halves of the ornament were sewn together, leaving the top open. The ornamen was lightly stuffed with polyester fiberfill and then secured shut by stitching the ornament topper to the top of the ornament. Be sure to sandwich some twine or ribbon before securing the top of the ornament for the ornament “hanger”.

For the nordic village ornament, the Home & Hearth Dies were die cut from Christmas Red, Sakura, Carnation, Caribbean, Moss, and Lime Wool Felt and hot glued in place on the ornament band.

White seed beads were sewn above and below the ornament band of the front of the ornament and then the ornament was sewn together like the snowman ornament.

For the “Joy” ornament, polka dots from the Sew Cute Ornaments Dies were die cut from Moss Wool Felt and hot glued to the Christmas Red ornament. The letters for the word “Joy” were die cut from Charcoal Wool Felt and hot glued to the Winter White Wool Felt band. Leaves from the Sew Cute Snowman dies were die cut from Moss Wool Felt and hot glued as shown. Red sequins were sewn in place with clear seed beads for “berries”.

The ornament was sewn together as described above.

To finish the ornaments tags were die cut from Hero Hues Pebble Cardstock with a Lawn Fawn Say What Gift Tags die. Images and/or phrases from the Essentials By Ellen Snow Buds, Snow Days, and Ginger House stamp sets were stamped on the tags with clear embossing ink and heat embossed with white embossing powder. The tag were threaded onto the twine and the twine was knotted to finish the ornaments!

I hope this has given you some ideas on how to create your own felt ornaments using stitching dies and regular dies. Have a great day!
