Hello coloring friends!!! It’s Sandy Allnock, back again to visit with a card that, well, went a little sideways, but came out great in the long run!

My sweet friend Carly threw down a challenge for me – combine Leading Gentleman with the new Life’s A Circus set – and use distress markers. WOW! What a hard one! I tried it any number of times, and I think I came up with a good solution once I found the movie poster for The Greatest Showman!

I loved the monochromatic theme on the poster, and tried to create the collection of characters behind the main showman – watch the video and let me know what you think!

Wasn’t that crazy!? I was sure I could get away with coloring the gentleman with the distress markers, but that didn’t quite work out too well. The markers DID do well on top of the Oxide inks, kind of melted in nicely on the Canson XL paper!

The final solution – coloring him in Copics then fussy cutting him out – was when I knew I had accomplished the goal; He remained nice and dark to fit with the rest of the card, but then he popped against all that background color!

On Instagram I’ve been doing “background challenges” – posting an image colored, then asking for suggestions. Be sure to join in the fun, I’d love to get your ideas for crazy backgrounds for cards!

Oh my gosh! You constantly amaze me! There is absolutely no way I would know how to approach this scene without watching you and listening to how you accomplished it. Love how you “stick with it” regardless of your “fails”. ;-).

I so like that you include what works and what doesn’t! That is helpful for me and I am sure others. I didn’t think the second guy looked bad; but I do see how the third one with the Copics was a better contrast to the background. Challenge done and now what did you challenge Carly with? Enjoyed the video!
