Good morning! Today I have a trio of cards to share using ONE stamp from Essentials by Ellen Unicorns & Glitter to create the background for all three cards!
Doesn’t that stamp make great clouds AND waves? I love the pattern of the stamp but also thought I needed a little solid stamping behind it. I considered ink blending…or a watercolor wash…but then I realized I wanted something a little more structured and shaped. And realized that the back of that stamp was perfect!
So to start, I placed the stamp backwards on an acrylic block and inked it with tumbled glass distress oxide ink. I stamped it three times on an A2 panel of white cardstock and set it with my heat gun. Then I turned the stamp around and put it back on my acrylic block. This time I inked the detailed side with blueprint sketch distress oxide ink and stamped it over the solid images. It’s not a symmetrical design so it doesn’t line up perfectly over the solid image but I think that makes it more interesting visually! I also heat set the detailed image with my heat gun. Then I applied a little nuvo crystal glaze over a few of the arches and set the backgrounds aside to dry completely. For the whale I stamped the background on the bottom third of the panel and for the unicorns I stamped the backgrounds on the top third of the panels!
While the backgrounds were drying I stamped the two unicorns from Essentials by Ellen Unicorns & Glitter and the whale from Essentials by Ellen S’Whale onto white cardstock with versafine and heat-embossed them with Hero Arts Sparkle Embossing Powder for a little extra shimmer! I colored them with copic markers and then die-cut them with the coordinating dies.
Once my backgrounds were dry I stamped sentiments from Essentials by Ellen Pure Magic and Essentials by Ellen Unicorns & Glitter with Hero Arts Intens-ified Black Ink . Then I adhered my whale and unicorns with foam mounting tape. To finish the cards I added a little more sparkle to the body of the animals with spectrum noir clear sparkle. I love all the different sparkly and shiny elements and how well that single stamp created backgrounds for all three cards!
