Seems like Slimline cards are all the rage right now! And why not? They’re new and modern looking, give you a ton of design space and fit into a No 10 envelope.
A slimline card is 8.5″ x 3.5″ which means you need to start with a piece of cardstock that is 8.5″ x7″ and then score and fold at 3.5″. If your scoring board is too small (like my Scor Buddy), then you can score down the 3.5″ line as far as possible, then turn the cardstock around and score from the other edge.
To stamp a background on my cardbase, I used my original-sized MISTI. If you only have a mini-MISTI, you can use it, but one end of your card will have to overhang the door. Just don’t push down too hard on the door there, or you may get a crease.
I lined up the Essentials by Ellen Striped Background at the top of my MISTI and stamped it onto the cardbase with Versafine Onyx ink.
To stamp the other end, I turned the cardbase around, and let the bottom hang over the bottom edge of the MISTI before stamping it again to complete the pattern.
I don’t have any slimline-specific dies, so I grabbed the stitched rectangle dies from the EBE Two-In-One Box set. The larger ones are 3.25″ on one side, so they are the perfect size for layering on my cardbase.
I blended ink onto the 3 smallest stitched rectangles for a pop of colour; the rest of the card will be black and white.
I played with different arrangements of the stitched rectangles until I was happy. I love how the 3 smallest rectangles fit ‘sideways’ to fill some space and add visual interest.
I finished the card with some new and older EBE products – Lucky stamp and die, Classic Block Alphabet, Mini Voices in my Head, Voices in my Head Vol. 3 and Confetti Hugs and Kisses.
