Hi Friends! I’m here today sharing two Low-Fat, Super Simple and Fun Gingerbread Plushie Recipes. While these would make some cute package toppers or gifts, I’m keeping these cuties for the Family Christmas Tree! Recipe: Candy Cane Lane Gingerbread Boy Plushie
Prep: 10 Minutes (One 9×12 Felt Sheet Yields Two Plushies)
Stitch, Stuff & Decorate: 15-30 Minutes
Fast & Fun; Low-Fat
Pre-heat hot glue gun to low setting and prep your floss to three threads per color.
Cookie Ingredients:
Hazelnut Felt (New Release)
Poly-fil Polyester Filling
DMC Floss: Christmas Red and Winter White
Stitching Needle
Hot glue or fabric glue
Decorations:
Frosting: Linen Felt
Candies: Merry Mints & Christmas Red Felt
Prep Directions:
- Gingerbread Felt Cookies: Die Cut the Gingerbread Boy cookie cutout using two pieces of Hazelnut felt. Align the die with the stitching to the cookie cutout. Make sure that the stitching holes are not too close to the felt edge; if they are too close the stitching may rip (trust me—I made this mistake and it was sad).
- Bowtie: Die cut two bows from Christmas Red Felt and connect the bows by wrapping Winter White Floss around the center point. Then stitch the bow to the front side of the gingerbread boy.
Stitch & Stuff Directions:
- Thread both the white and red floss through your needle (you should have a total of 6 strands-3 white and 3 red). You can also pre-twist the thread colors together to help with the candy cane effect. Knot the end of the threads and feed the floss under the backside of the felt to secure. Stack your cookies together and align the stitching holes. Use a Whipstitch to sew the pieces together and create a candy cane stripe pattern along the edges of your plushie.
- Be sure to leave a small opening (I kept the opening at the top of the Gingerbread Boy’s head) so you can add the stuffing. For the arms and legs you may need to use a pencil to help move the Poly-fil into those hard to reach areas. Take extra care when you add your stuffing you don’t rip the felt/stitching or cause the felt to buckle.
- Before stitching the plushie closed, you can add a tag/ornament loop at the top of the Gingerbread Boy and then sew it in when you close your plushie.
Decorate Directions:
- Die-cut the mouth and eyes from Linen Felt (looks just like frosting) and then two red hot candy buttons from Christmas Red Felt. I secured all the felt decorations using fabric glue but a glue gun would also be handy. For the finishing touch, I adhered a large Merry Mint Pinwheel to his belly. SEW CUTE!
Recipe: Sugar & Spice and Everything Nice Gingerbread Girl Plushie
Prep: 15 Minutes (Extra Bunting & Ruffles)
Stitch, Stuff & Decorate: 20-30 Minutes (more stitches than the boy with more accessorizing of course)
Fast & Fun; Low-Fat
Pre-heat hot glue gun to low setting and pre-set die cut machine for a simple plate sandwich. Prep your DMC floss to three threads.
Cookie Ingredients:
Hazelnut Felt (New Release) & Carnation Felt
Poly-fil Polyester Filling
DMC Floss: Light Salmon
Stitching Needle
Hot glue or fabric glue
Decorations:
Frosting: Linen, Ahi & Carnation Felt
Pip Pop Drops
Prep Directions:
- For the Cookie: Die Cut the Gingerbread Girl cutout using one piece of Hazelnut felt (front side) and one piece of Carnation Felt (backside). Align the die with the stitching to the cookie cutout.
- Ruffles: Die cut the top & bottom ruffle trim from Carnation felt.
- Heart Garland: Thread your needle with white floss, knot at the end and sew the thread through one of the arms. Die cut hearts from Carnation & Linen Felt. Then feed the needle & thread through each of the felt hearts. After adding your felt hearts, sew the thread through the opposite secure with a knot.
Stitch & Stuff Directions:
- Thread three strands of pink floss through your needle. Knot the end of the threads and feed your floss under the backside of the felt to secure and start your stitching. Stack your cookies together and align the stitching holes. Then use a Running Stitch to sew the pieces together along with the pink dress ruffles.
- Be sure to leave a small opening (I kept the opening at the top of the Gingerbread Girl’s head) to add your Poly-fil stuffing. For the arms and legs you may need to use a pencil to help move the polyfill around. Take extra care when you add your stuffing you don’t rip the felt/stitching or cause the felt to buckle.
Decorate/Accessorize:
- Die-cut the mouth and eyes from Linen Felt and the bow from the Gingerbread Boy in Ahi Felt. I secured all the felt pieces using fabric glue. For a little extra pop and holiday whimsy, I adhered soft pink, hot pink and red Pip Pop Circle Drop embellishments to the pink ruffle trimmings on the dress. She’s perfect for a Pretty Pink Christmas or hold on to her for Valentine’s Day.
