Hey, hello, hi! It’s Julie on the blog today! Colorful backgrounds can really make your focal images pop—but few techniques are as quick and easy as “direct-to-paper”! For smaller scale projects such as cards and mini cards, like these mini notes, try grabbing your ink cubes! They’re size makes it easy to vary the colors in a wide range of “stripes” or “strokes” as you drag or swipe the pad across the paper, creating fun abstract backgrounds!
TIPS:
- Direct-to-paper inking works best when ink pads are not overly dry (avoids pulling on the pad and potentially tearing it away from the base).
- Pigment, hybrid and water-based dye ink pads can be used for this method.
- Start with lightest colors first, to avoid cross-contamination as much as possible.
- Small ink cubes work great for smaller projects; larger ink pads for larger scale projects.
- Keep the cube flat for wider strokes and tilt to drag the edge for narrower strokes.
- Linen style pads can sometimes fray along the edges over time; trim them down with scissors to keep things neat and tidy.
