Join Angela as she shares 3 fun and easy cards featuring Valentines-inspired favorites from the Essentials by Ellen line.
Hi everyone! It’s Angela here today, and I hope your 2022 is off to a fabulous start. Thinking back to when you were a kid, did you love picking out Valentines cards and giving them to your friends at school? I sure did! But to be honest, as an adult I haven’t really been a huge Valentine’s Day-celebrating kind of gal. That said, over the holidays I had some fun brainstorming new card ideas, specifically cards for the Galentines in my life. Luckily the Essentials by Ellen line includes products that are perfect for exactly this purpose, and I decided to create a card trio, mix and matching them all.
In today’s video, I’ll show you how I combined the Essentials by Ellen High Five stamp set and dies, Confetti Kisses & Tic Tac Toe Die Combo, and the Tiny Hearts Valentine Mix confetti in this coordinated set. Whether you like to keep things simple with clean lines and repeated stamping, or shake it up with shaker cards, I’ve got you covered with these projects, plus plenty of tips along the way. You’ll see that by using the same color palette and supplies throughout, the cards come together really quickly but all still have their own unique features.
A few tips:
- Need to cut lots of X’s and O’s? Leave the Confetti Kisses dies together instead of breaking the apart to create a whole bunch in a single pass through your die cutting machine
- When doing repeated stamping as I’ve shown in the 2nd project, use grid paper in the MISTI stamping platform to help with spacing. Leave your stamp in the same spot on the MISTI door, and each time you go to stamp, move your cardstock by the same number of grid squares. This will help to make sure that the images are perfectly aligned and evenly spaced.
- When making shaker cards with tiny confetti bits, make compartments behind each window area with skinny foam strips. (You’ll see me do this in the video in the 3rd project). This way, the confetti doesn’t fall to the bottom of the card, leaving the window areas empty. I find that 1/8″ strips are perfect for this, and when you seal that shaker window, be sure to press very firmly on all of those foam taped areas. We don’t want any confetti falling out or getting stuck on the foam tape!
- Does your card look like it just needs a little bit of extra… something? Sparkle, perhaps? Try adding a simple bow made with baker’s twine (I like this white and silver one from May Arts), sparkle embossing powder, or a thin strip of glitter cardstock. All of these add a touch of shine and texture, and could be just the finishing touch you’re looking for.
