VIDEO: Gel Printing with Very Peri | 2022 Pantone Color of the Year

Hello, crafty friends! In today’s video, I create several Very Peri backgrounds with both Distress Oxide and Catherine Pooler ink pads. I also add black and white acrylic paint to change the intensity of the colours, as well as add texture.

My video focuses more on the gel printing techniques and backgrounds, rather than show you how to make these five cards from start to finish. Most of the arrangements and designs were adopted from cards I previously made using these same products.

This first card is the most Very Peri in its gel printed background and the centres of the Painted Florals, which were stamped with Serenade ink. The flowers themselves were stamped in Black Jack ink and the leaves were die cut from vellum. The top layer was texturized with the A2 Piercing Plate 2. The patterned paper is from the Woodsy Patterned Paper pack and the sentiment from the Casual Greetings Hot Foil Stamp was heat foiled in Speckled Prism.

The main colour in this second card is Tranquil ink. The use of the reinker allowed that colour to shine through the darker background and give the white paint a bubbly texture. The frame was created using the Essential Hexagons dies, the Nordic Cross Cover Plate and patterned paper from the Woodsy Patterned Paper pack. Once again, the sentiment from the Casual Greetings Hot Foil Stamp was heat foiled in Speckled Prism.

My third card highlights the warmer shades of the distress oxide inks but the black and white acrylic paints allowed some of the existing Very Peri shades to show as well. I quite like the intensity of the black paint on this particular background. This card also uses the Essential Hexagons dies, the A2 Piercing Plate 2 and the sentiment from the Casual Greetings Hot Foil Stamp, heat foiled in Speckled Prism. I added a few black star sequins to help carry the eye to the very edges of the background.

It’s hard not to love this fourth card. I love the contrast between the pale flowers and the rougher, more abstract background. This card is the unsual one of the five since I used coloured cardstock to pick up the background. It’s not an exact match to the Tranquil flowers but it works nicely with all the black and white paint. I changed the design a little bit with the rounded corners and the sentiment was heat foiled in Silver.

My last card features the lightest and simplest background so I was able to create a more intricate frame using both the Essential Hexagons and Essential Hexagons for Stitching. I used DMC Color Variation 4220 from my stash to stitch around both the silver and white hexagons, giving them an ombre Very Peri border. The sentiment from the Casual Greetings Hot Foil Stamp was heat foiled in Aurora.
