Julie’s taking the guess work out of building an adorable bee themed shaker card by starting with the bottom!
Hello, it’s me, Julie! I’m positive there are plenty of folks who make their shaker cards the way I’m about to show you, but this is the reverse order of how I originally learned to do it! So, instead of going top down, I’m workin’ bottom up! Go me! Those of you who already knew this was so much easier, just let me have my moment, ‘K? Cuz I was seriously stoked! LOL!
TIPS:
- Rotating your project upside down can help you better see whether something is off-center or crooked.
- Prepping your paper surface with anti-static powder, especially after doing some ink blending, helps reduce any residual moisture (from the ink itself, oil from your hands, etc.) on the surface and will give you a much cleaner emboss.
- When heat embossing metallics on watercolor paper, try regular grind; fine/detail grind tends to “melt” down into the surface of watercolor paper and the finish isn’t as shiny or raised.
- Did you know that metallic embossing powder, gold in particular, can tarnish over time? If you purchase a lot/in bulk for a big project, you may want to store it in an airtight container. Otherwise, purchase regular size jars, use it up, then get more. Ask me how I know . . .
- When trimming down clear plastic, a straight blade trimmer, like the one by Fiskars, works exceptionally well and provides a smooth, clean cut.
- Over-stuffing your shaker box will make it harder to see what’s inside.
- Permanently mounting just a few of your confetti/shaker bits inside the window is a cool option because then EVERYTHING doesn’t fall down to the bottom.
