Julie’s sharing 6 different ways you could use your cover plate dies!
Hello! Julie with 6 ways to use the Birch Trees Cover Plate today! Depending on the particulars of the Background Die you’re working with, you may be able to apply some, all and even MORE ways it than what I’ve covered here!
TIPS
- Dies that don’t have outer perimeter cutting edges can be used directly on a card front, and left unlined or lined with a piece of patterned paper or contrasting colored card stock.
- Depending on whether or not a Cover plate has open space(s), it can be used to make a great shaker window.
- Some cover dies make great stencils for ink blending or other mediums, i.e. embossing paste.
- Cover Dies can be pressure embossed to create a raised effect on the opposite side of the paper–lightly mist the paper with water to avoid cracking.
- If you foil a Cover die, save the negative foil piece, also known as “waste” and use the Press Plate Hot Foil Stamp to apply it to another project.
TIPS FOR HOT FOILING “WASTE”
- Every machine is calibrated differently; be prepared to do a little experimentation and to make notes about what works for your system and the materials you’re working with.
- Julie’s tips/notes apply specifically to the Gemini FoilPress system used with Gemini brand PAPER foils and should be considered a starting point:
- Use the lowest setting to Pre-heat the FoilPress Platform and wait for the beep/green light.
- Place the Press Plate Hot Foil Stamp onto the platform (face up) and allow it to pre-heat for about a minute.
- Place foil with the pretty side against the Press Plate, followed by:
- Project card stock (Silver matte “ugly” side of foil should be against paper)
- Heat Resistant Plate Cover
- Two shims (80# card stock)
- The Spellbinders Glimmer Foils require a lot more heat than the Gemini brand Foils when foiling waste; TEST.
