Do you love geometric designs? Angela sure does, and she’s here with a video tutorial for a birthday card featuring the Essentials by Ellen Honeycomb Background Builder die set.
Hey there friends! It’s Angela, and today I’m excited to share a clean and simple, hexagon-print birthday card with you. Back in the June Essentials by Ellen release, the Honeycomb Background Builder die set was one that stole my heart right away. As someone who loves geometric design, my mind was flooded with possibilities for this little duo. Today we’ll take a very close look at these two dies, and I’ll talk about a few other techniques you can try with them.
Tips:
- Both dies cut a bunch of small hexagons, and though I haven’t used them all in today’s project, save your leftovers because they make great filler for shaker cards.
- Speaking of shaker cards, DIY gold hexagon confetti is a breeze to make. Use the Essentials by Ellen Press Plate and hot foil to create your own gold cardstock, then use the dies to cut the hexagons.
- One of the dies in the set also cuts a honeycomb outline. Use it as an alignment guide for getting the small hexagons perfectly spaced, and gently lift it away once you’ve inlaid all of them.
- You can also use the honeycomb outline piece as a stencil. Simply adhere it (or hold it in place) over a piece of cardstock and ink blend your heart out!
- If you don’t have a frame that fits well around a foiled sentiment, you can make your own using the Essentials by Ellen shape dies. These cut a thin frame, and I modified an Essential Rectangle by cutting pieces out of so the frame. This allowed me to get it closer to the sentiment.
