Today Therese shares a beautiful card with tips and tricks to create Elegance in a watercolor card design!
Welcome back! It’s Therese here and ssh, don’t tell anyone, but I am sharing some of my secrets with you. It’s all about creating the look of elegance in a card and together we’ll get you there. Starting with
Tip #1
Choose a beautiful floral stamp and the Mondo Rhododendron Stamp Set is perfect, I’m sure you will agree.
Tip #2
Add elegance by White Heat Embossing the image.
BONUS TIP: Use Gold Embossing Powder instead to add some gorgeous metallic shine. Or why not create the ‘no-line’ look using Contour Ink?
Tip #3
Use a muted color palette. Think of all those beautiful tapestries and rugs in Europe… you can always search the internet to find inspiration for color combinations. Today I used Gansai Tambi Watercolors to color my image.
And Bristol Smooth Cardstock was a good choice as I knew that I would need cardstock that could tolerate water. But the great thing, it’s still a nice bright white and it’s smooth enough to stamp an image on.
PRO TIP: Heat embossing an image makes it easy to keep the color where I want it, but I do let the paint dry naturally as I don’t want to ‘re-heat’ the embossed image.
Tip #4
Keep the design simple. Today I have re-created a ‘Botanicals’ design, these beautiful old-fashioned sketched drawings have such an elegance to them.
PRO TIP: Watercolors can warp cardstock. Passing them through your die-cutting machine, after they are dry will help to flatten them out. I used the A2 Layers Die to cut this panel to fit my card.
Now, are ready for the elegance?
I hope that you have been inspired to create an elegant watercolor card. And if you do, I’d love you to share them with me @lostinpaper and @ellenhutsonllc. We can’t wait to see what you make!
