Does the holiday season make you feel extra crafty? We are certainly feeling that way, and so is Design Ambassador Carly Tee! She’s been trying her hand at DIY-ing some felt ornaments and she’s here to share how with help from our Sew Cute dies.
With two littles in the house, our Christmas tree needs more soft, unbreakable ornaments and I thought why not make them?! And Essentials by Ellen has the adorable Sew Cute die sets that make it EASY!
Here’s a quick process video on how I created this snowman…
Tips & Tricks
- Add all your details before stuffing & sewing snowman (or other shapes) together.
- Consider making felt stickers by applying felt to sheet of doubled sided adhesive before die cutting. Instant sticker!
- Don’t have the right color felt or floss on hand? Use alcohol markers like Copics to color what you need.
- Add extra details like cheeks with colored pencils.
- The pre-punched holes with the Sew Cute dies are also the perfect opportunity for experienced stitchers to try a new stitch. Make sure to check out the EBE Paper Embroidery Stitch Guide!
- Reinforce delicate pieces like the branch arms by adhering multiple layers together with cardstock in the middle.
Wanna see the other ornaments I’ve created so far?
To create a wreath I used the EBE Essential Circles for Stitching and the Essential Circles. A little Pretty Pink Posh bow, a few sequins and ta-da!
To make this little mug of cocoa I used non-stitching dies from the Cozy Cuppa set. Without the pre-punched holes, my stitching is definitely a little messier but it’s good practice and now I’m excited to look at all my other dies!
And I couldn’t resist making another Rudolph with the EBE Sew Cute – Deer. I made the first one before I knew how to blanket stitch and I like this one so much better. I highly recommend the EBE Paper Embroidery Stitch Guide PDF!
