Entertaining for 4th of July? Join Angela as she shares 3 fun table decor ideas that’ll add some festive flare to your place settings.
Do you like to host parties? I sure do, and find that I enjoy the planning and preparation just as much as the events themselves. Menu planning is always my favorite part, but decorations are a close second – especially the DIY variety! Today I’ve got 3 ideas to show you, all of which are super easy to make with a few items from the Essentials by Ellen line.
First things first: Color!
Red and blue are pretty standard for 4th of July, so I’ve included these along with a few shades of pink. (If you know me, you know I’ll throw it in wherever I can!) My cardstock choices were as follows:
- Reds/Pinks from dark to light: Concord & 9th Cranberry, Honeysuckle, Ballet Slipper
- Blues from dark to light: Concord & 9th Midnight, Hero Arts Lapis, and Concord & 9th Aqua Sky
- Gold + Neutrals: Concord & 9th Gold Glitter and Wheat Cardstock
While most of these projects only required cardstock, I also used inks in Concord & 9th Blueberry, Aqua Sky, and Catherine Pooler Party Dress.
Project 1: A Treat Box
Want to gift your guests with a few little sweet treats? The Pyramid Box & Party Hat Add On are ideal for this – specifically the striped design in the Party Hat Add-On.
Tips:
- You’ll need 2 pyramid box die cuts and 4 triangle die cuts (from the Pyramid Box die set) for each box that you make. For the Party Hat Add-On, if you choose to use the curved stripe design as I have with 5 colors of cardstock, you only need to die cut each color once. This will give you enough curved stripes to cover all 4 sides of the pyramid.
- Not sure how to adhere the star at the top? I die cut it twice from gold glitter cardstock and sandwiched the end of a toothpick between, then stuck the toothpick down the top of the pyramid
Project 2: Sparkly Napkin Rings
Wrap bundles of cutlery in these paper napkin rings, made with the Essentials by Ellen Skinny Stripes Background Stamp, Essential Stars Die Set, and Classic Block Alpha and Classic Block Numbers & Symbols Die Sets.
Tips:
- Need a tiny “happy” sentiment? I borrowed the one on my projects from the Positive Vibes stamp set, but you’ll also find one in the Birthday Vibes, Valentine Vibes and Holiday Vibes stamp sets.
- The Skinny Stripes background stamp is 6″ wide, which is plenty to wrap around a bundle of cutlery, or napkins, or cutlery wrapped in napkins! It’s a good idea to test out the size you’ll need before closing the ring. (You can adhere the ends with double-sided adhesive, but I found that a staple was a much more secure option.
Project 3: Hooray Pennant
These could be arranged in a glass as a centerpiece, or inserted in an empty glass or on the plate of each table setting. I gave the Essentials by Ellen Hooray Pennant a patriotic twist with a starry background that created using the Starry Skies and Christmas Magic stamp sets.
Tip:
- To get the alignment of the letters in “hooray’ just right, I cut the triangle pennant shape and the hooray die into plain white cardstock. Using this as my template, I laid this over my decorated pennant (the one with the stamped background), held it in place with a magnet, and popped the colored cardstock letters in the gaps. Voila – perfect alignment!
