3 Card Layouts Using Watercolor Markers with Stencils

Hi crafty friends! It’s Jeannie here and today, I wanted to three different card layouts using watercolor markers with stencils!

I’m using some of the new items from the recent Essentials by Ellen summer release. The focal item for these cards is the Monstera stencil along with the Tropical Foliage stamp set and the Aloha sentiment die.

Whenever I want to create a set of cards, I like to use the same products within each card. The base for this set is the Monstera stencil but the difference with these — I’m not ink blending! I thought it would be fun to use the Sketchmarker Aqua watercolor markers to ink it up. It’s also relatively quick. I scribbled out four different colors that I wanted to use, used a wet brush to pick up the color, and then I started adding color with stencil on top of my Bristol Smooth cardstock.

To change up each of my cards in this set, I left one panel alone, and masked off two additional panels. By doing so, you set up three cards that will feature the same stencil. To add a bit of interest, I pulled out the Tropical Foilage stamps to add some images onto two of the cards. All three cards will feature the Aloha sentiment die.

TIPS FOR USING WATERCOLOR MARKERS WITH STENCILS

Don’t expected the perfect the stenciled image; water moves so embrace the imperfection!
Scribble the watercolor marker on a silicone mat or a glass mat and pick up the color from there instead of directly on your card panel
Less water is better — you just need a wet brush to get the color moving
Wait until the water dries a bit before removing your stencil
