DIY Holiday Tags & An Essentials by Ellen Sneak Peek

There’s something kind of magical about working small. Maybe it’s because there’s less pressure, or that it gives you more time to play when the work space isn’t as large and daunting, or maybe it’s the sheer volume you can finish in the end, but whatever it is, I love it, and one of my most favorite ways to do it is by making gift tags.

With the holiday season fast approaching (yay and ugh simultaneously for me), I love making a big pile of tags to have ready for those times when I need to wrap, grab, and go.

I LOVE the ugly sweater accessory stamp set that’s releasing with the October Leading Ladies sets, and I think a bit part of that is how much I can do with it. This 3×4 set may be small, but it’s mighty! A pattern maker at heart, I adore using these small shaped stamps to create patterns and backgrounds, but honestly, sometimes he thought of doing that on a standard card front overwhelms me. Gift tags to the rescue!

Copic colors Brandi used to create DIY Holiday Tags

I grabbed a handful of my favorite Christmas colored Copic Markers and Pinkfresh liquid watercolors for inspiration and got to work.

It’s amazing how much more doable (and fun) a smaller size really is. Of course, now I kind of want wrapping paper with this pattern.

Once I finished coloring my stack of stamped papers, I played a little with the watercolor by stamping and clear embossing some paper that I could paint over.

I love the resist look of the stamped image left white. I tend to get a lot of these stamped and painted images by using dies and punches to cut out shapes I can then layer to create tags.

A bit of extra cardstock, some dimensional foam adhesive, and very quickly I had a pile of fun, colorful tags ready to be tied and gifted.

Or maybe I’ll just save a few to hang on my tree…
