In today’s video, Justine Hovey is exploring a way to achieve a galaxy look with Distress Oxide inks.

I have gone through so many galaxy tutorials because I just love the way they look but I find most of the time, the supplies are too complex and complicated – supplies I can’t use in other projects so it wasn’t worth the investment. However, I started experimenting with my Distress Oxide inks and I found a way to do it – as long as you own a few vibrant colours, some dark blue and black, this will work. It actually works with normal distress and other blendable inks as well, just a slightly different appearance.

The colours I used in this video are: Mustard Seed, Spiced Marmalade, Picked Raspberry, Wilted Violet, Pine Needles, Blue Sapphire and Black Soot. The galaxy was complete inspired by the new January dies – Circle of Stars, Star Swooshes and Starry Night. I paired these beautiful, starry dies with the Altenew Kind Words stamp since it contained a few star-themed sentiments.

I masked off several areas of three panels to get three unique cards, each containing a lot of white space so that the background wasn’t too overwhelming. I incorporated more white in the card by spraying some white spray overtop to create the stars.

I hope you enjoyed this video and will give the galaxy backgrounds a try. They are even more stunning in person!
