12 Tags of Christmas 2020 – day 7 with Heather Meeson

Welcome to Day 7 of 12 Tags of Christmas 2020!

Today brings Heather Meeson back to the blog with a tag inspired by an upbeat holiday song penned in the 1940’s – A Marshmallow World.

A Marshmallow World” is a firm favorite in my house (and I’m not ashamed to say I’ve had my Christmas record collection out and spinnin’ for a few weeks already). If this one isn’t already on your holiday playlist, you can give it a listen at the link above.

It’s a marshmallow world in the winter,
when the snow comes to cover the ground.

Inspired by a landscape covered in marshmallow fluff, I created most of my tag with layers of white …

To add a little pop of color, I created a candy-cane-inspired stripe on the snowman’s hat and scarf with the Plaid Maker Stamp Set, then paper pieced.

Tip: Plaid Maker is one of those sets that may not seem exciting at first glance, but is a versatile workhorse you’ll reach for again and again once it’s in your stash.

To add interest to a mostly-white design, I used a “cover plate” die to add texture to the background, and created lots of depth with dimensional adhesive.

And because I think peppermint and marshmallow go hand-in-hand during the festive season, I couldn’t resist adding a little paper sweetie. (Full disclosure; I may have been influenced by all the Trader Joe’s peppermint marshmallows I’ve been eating lately.) *wink*

These were a breeze to make: I stamped the center of the Swirl Background Stamp on 3×3 squares (a great use for your white scraps too), cut it out with a circle die, and adhered it to the circle tag from the Tag Trio Die Set.

I added “sugary” sparkle, fast, using Stick-It. Once I’d stamped and die cut the peppermint, I added the double-sided adhesive to the stamped side, then peeled it off, and added glitter. Fast and painless.

Tip: After adding double-sided adhesive to your image, run it through your die-cutting machine to make sure it’s good and stuck. This will give you a nice, even result when you add glitter.

Tip: When layering tags, make your “hangers” match by cutting an extra tag to layer on whatever shape you’re using – like the Winter Window here. Just like that, anything you’re using looks like a proper tag.

The world is your snowball just for a song,
Get out and roll it along!

Thanks for stopping by! (And I hope you’re inspired to create a few “marshmallow world” tags too.)
