When I first started stamping I struggled so much getting a good impression with all stamps but especially solid images. I felt like the world’s worst stamper! Thankfully I discovered a few tricks to get a great stamped image…
TIPS:
- Clean & prep…Not all stamps need to be cleaned prior to stamping but I find a quick wipe with my stamp shammy or stamp cleaner keeps the ink from beading up during the initial use. And if cleaning isn’t helping enough, try giving the surface of the stamp a quick once over with an eraser.
- Stamping tools…so you’ve cleaned & prepped your stamp and you’re still not getting a great impression? I highly recommend a stamping tool like the MISTI which allows you to ink & stamp multiple times for a solid impression.
- Another reason to love the MISTI…not only do you get perfectly stamped images but you can also create multi-color & ombre effects and custom colors too. Check out Julie’s awesome video on ombre stamping.
- Ink matters...Before you toss out a misbehaving stamp, double-check what kind of ink you are using. Some inks are actually designed to produce an imperfect impression like Distress Inks. Can you get a solid impression with inks like Distress Ink? Absolutely and I find it easiest to do it with a stamping tool so you can stamp repeatedly and get solid coverage.
