Clean and Simple: Just Squidding!

Hello there! It’s Sandy Allnock and I’m kind of excited to be here on the blog today – we haven’t had a celebration in my life in a couple weeks and I’m due for a party – new release day is a perfect excuse! This set called Just Squidding is the object of my affection today….note that there’s a shark fin and Loch Ness monster on a stick – squid like to play practical jokes!

I’m going to bet no one has ever pictured a squid as a girly critter, but I think she’s beauuuuutiful! And after a year of social distancing I will totally take a hug from all her arms! Even as I sit here writing this post and looking at the picture – she’s not wearing a mask but is hiding behind that heart as if it is one! 🙂

In the video I’ll show you the way I did the coloring here, and the card assembly to create a de-bossed “frame” for the little round colored picture!

When making a clean and simple popped panel like this, be sure to be generous with dimensional adhesive; I put a strip along the outside edges (I cut mine lengthwise into skinny strips to make it last longer). And I also put a little bit around the circle so it doesn’t collapse or flatten out. I left out the “frame” from the Essential Circles die so it’s almost like a de-bossed frame!

There’s something so sweet about CAS cards – clean and simple – and when it means I can get the coloring done faster than on a whole cardfront-sized scene, it also means I can get more cards done too!

The bonus card was intended originally to be a crazy interactive one; I had wanted to figure out how to engineer “spinning” the squid left to right and the shark fin would advance through the wave. Due to several circumstances, though, I gave up; but if YOU figure out how, please do tag me on social media with your creation, I’d love to know how to make that happen!

The coloring for this card – squid and fin were colored and diecut. The boat was stamped at an angle on a full rectangle of cardstock, with the bottom edge of the boat masked off; then I fussy cut the boat and right side of the water, and then tore the top of the wave on the left half! The bottom is airbrushed, with just a few strokes of marker under the wave. The sky is a separate panel that I airbrushed, using torn strips of Eclipse tape to mask off clouds.
