Cardmaking, Essentials By Ellen

Avery Elle Week – Day One

Welcome to Day One of Avery Elle Week on the Ellen Hutson blog! We have a ton of fun and inspiration planned for you! Each day a Designer will be featuring Avery Elle products sprinkled with Essentials by Ellen goodies. Let’s get started with Amy Tsuruta!

I couldn’t wait to challenge myself for this week’s projects. I’m featuring the Avery Elle – Layered Cupcake set. I don’t dabble too much in the layering sets but I knew I wanted to give the Layered Cupcake set a go. Here’s how I was inspired:

I had so much fun designing these two projects. I wanted to create a playful version and a graphic version. Each of the cupcakes uses the same ink colors. Let’s chat about the You’re Sweet card first:

The frosting uses the following ink colors by Catherine Pooler:

Minted

Aquatini

Cummberbund

All That Jazz

Uptown

The cupcake is Sand Castle.

The cupcake liner consists of:

It’s A Girl

Do-Si-Do

Party Dress

Rockin’ Red

Cranberry Fizz

TIP: Using the same ink colors for two different projects takes the guess work out of the designing process.

Do you recognize that sweet bunny? It’s from the Summer of Stamping – Camp Wanna Stamp set. I also used the Essentials by Ellen – Essential Rectangles along with the Essential Rectangles for Stitching.

TIP: Avery Elle’s Peek a Boo Pals collection can be added to any project.

For my next card I went for more of a graphic look.

I flipflopped the color for the cupcake and used the pinks for the frosting and the blues for the cupcake liner. I stamped the sentiment from the Essentials by Ellen – Cake set and used the Essentials Circles to cut it out. I then smooshed the Minted pad on top of it to color what was originally white cardstock. Originally I stared at the sentiment circle and white A2 panel and rectangles from the Essentials Rectangles. It looked so plain so I added the strips of cardstock:

Concord & 9th – Ballet Slipper

Concord & 9th – Honeysuckle

TIP: Add cardstock strips for pops of color to your card design.

Do you see what else I added?

I added an A2 Piercing Plate panel that I cut on the diagonal. Just a couple of different but very postal friendly elements to add more interest to the overall card design.

TIP: The A2 Piercing Plate adds great texture to a design.
