Welcome to Day 9 of the 12 Tags of Christmas!
Today, Daniel West brings his whimsical fun to the blog to show us how his favorite winter song, ‘Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer’ inspired him to create his gift tags. Check out his tips and tricks for success below!

Fun and mischief run through my veins, so when I got to pick a song inspiration for my tag, I immediately thought of Grandma Got Ran Over by a Reindeer. Not everyone enjoys my inner 12-year-old, but I enjoy him so much–even if he has to destroy granny with my stamps.
To tag grandma, I die cut the circle Farmhouse Tags Essentials by Ellen die out of white cardstock twice. Then, I added a bit of snow in the foreground with a B01 Copic Marker.
Next, I masked off the foreground with Post-It Tape and added some Catherine Pooler Daydream Ink in an ombre for the sky with a blending brush. CP ink reacts with water, so I sprayed a few drops of clean water to the front with a Tim Holtz Distress Sprayer and dabbed off the tag with a cloth.
After that, I die cut a deer from the Christmastown set and stamped him in Over Coffee Ink, then Daydream Ink. This was actually a palette correction for me, but I like how the brown darkened the blue-green and improved the silhouette of the deer.
TIP: To center a stamp over a die cut using an acrylic block, pick to points on the die to line the stamp up with and the rest of the image will fall right into place.
Then, I stamped the house and roof from the Christmastown set with Daydream and Hot Tub Inks.
Next, I stamped an arm and a leg from the Snow Angels by Julie Ebersole stamp set with Midnight Ink and colored them in with YR09, YR07, YR04, BG78 and BG75.
I grabbed the “Naughty List” sentiment strip I had previously foiled from the Holiday Cheer EBE Hot Foil Stamp and cut the words apart.
TIP: When hot foiling a plate of sentiments like Holiday Cheer, make a few sets at a time, die cut them, and store them behind the plate in its pouch. Now you have a ton of sentiment strips ready for future use and you only had to break out the foiling system once!
After that, I dotted the entire tag with a Posca White Paint Marker for some snow and popped up the sentiment and deer with foam tape.
To finish off the tag, I looped a length of black and white twine through both round tag die cuts!

I’m loving your inner 12-year-old’s tag vibes! That’s such an uncommon but catchy song choice; it immediately started playing in my head with that distinctive twang of the vocalist. I’m afraid it’s going to be stuck there for a while. 😂 I love how you kept your color palette in the blue-greens by stamping the blue ink over the brown of the reindeer! It looks awesome! I also love how you didn’t stop with a reindeer, but included the aftermath of grandma. Bold yet hilarious choice! 🤣
