Vertical Rainbow Slider Card

Interactive cards are a little bit of paper happiness that you can send by mail! The Essentials by Ellen Rainbow Slider die makes it easy to send a happy rainbow!

Julie has a wonderful video tutorial today with tips for creating a vertical interactive rainbow slider card!

We’re goin’ vertical with today’s project, featuring the Rainbow Slider Die!

TIPS:

  • Slip a piece of clear plastic between the rainbow segments to mask them off while coloring
  • If you’re concerned the underside of the rainbow will be visible, color the back side of the rainbow segments, too!
  • In my video, you’ll see that one of my rainbow strips became detached along the score line ( there may have been a slight amount of additional pressure along that spot when going through the diecutting machine and because I am using 80# card stock, it was just enough to weaken that particular spot ). You can EASILY remedy this by simply using a small piece of clear Scotch tape on the underside of the rainbow
  • If you want a card that opens, cut the window opening through a separate quarter sheet of card stock; mount the slider mechanism to that and then mount all to your base card. Please see our assembly video on the website for further information.
  • I used Copic (alcohol) markers to color the rainbow strips, but used similar colors of Prismacolor Premiere colored pencils to color my unicorn because I did not want my coloring to bleed through the back of my card.
  • Be aware that additional layers of card stock and/or patterend paper on top of the rainbow strips can impede the functionality of the rainbow sliding back down into the window—the edges can “catch”; I used THIN glitter washi tape to highlight one of my rainbow strips. Alternatively, try applying glitter glue or a shimmer pen to achieve a similar effect without bulking up the strip.
