Lisa is here with two cool swimming pool backgrounds that make a SPLASH, perfect for summer stamping!
Nothing says summer like relaxing in the pool on a super cute unicorn floaty, amiright? Well, the Avery Elle x Ellen Hutson SOS Soak It Up set has one of those, cute critters, and more! Annnnnd, July is also World Watercolor Month! So I wanted to share two FUN watercolor backgrounds you can make to go with this new set — check ’em out!
I used the same watercolors on both of the backgrounds: phthalo blue and phthalo green! Both of these are super vibrant colors you all! I started off by mixing up a big puddle of each color so that I’d have plenty to work with.
Background 1: Waves
For the background on the left, I grabbed a BIG brush — a big brush is key here! — and painted loose waves of color, dragging one through the other wet on wet.
Background 2: Sparkles
Then for the background on the right, I loaded my brush with color, then I used a rag to dry the end of the brush closest to the handle. This will leave the brush still loaded with color, and by drying it off when you drag the brush lightly across the paper it will “skip” and leave little flecks of white that look just like the sparkles on water! So cool!
Before it dried I rinsed out my brush and loaded it with clean water, then painted some random stripes and splashes right over where I had painted. This really gives the feeling of water splashing around!
I colored the critter and the unicorn floaty using the Daniel Smith Essentials set, but I thought it needed a little extra something — and I had the idea to add some shimmer! YES! Just love how this turned out, it’s so sparkly in real life.
Now for a closeup of the finished card!
Hope you give these techniques a try!
