SUMMER OF STAMPING STAY COOL

Geometric shapes, like those in the newly released “Stay Cool” can be used in so many interesting combinations and they’re perfect for thinking “outside-the-box”, as Julie is sharing today!

Hello, everybody!  Julie here on the blog today! Hopefully you saw on release day how “Stay Cool” was designed as a builder set for summery ice cream and popsicles, which I adore!  But, as I was illustrating the set, the wheels kept turning and was so excited to be able to use these basic images in ways beyond their original intention. I’m sharing 6 card designs with the exact same shapes, but not one drip or drop of ice cream in sight! This notecard set is sized to 4-bar notecard size, making the perfect framework to showcase these abstract collages!

TIPS:

  • Don’t be afraid to reduce the size of your card to better suit the image sizes you are working with; in this instance 4-bar note cards, which measure 3.5 x 5” when folded, are the perfect scale to keep the focus on the collages!
  • Notice how the visual elements are kept closer/tighter to each other; this draws the eye in, creating a nice flow and a sense of continuity.
  • Use water-based dye inks in a limited palette to keep the notecard set cohesive throughout.  The use of black in this palette gives the whole set a modern influence; when deciding on your palette use darker/more dominant colors more sparingly, as a supporting accent.  This creates more visual “pop”!
  • Shift your paradigm; ocean “waves” don’t always have to be aqua hued; on one of these examples, Julie used black ink and it works well here.

I love these Geometric shapes on a card. They remind me of a magnetic shape game I had given to my granddaughters to learn how to create with shapes.
    Merci
