Cardmaking, Essentials By Ellen, Stamping

Good Day Stamp Set: Two Ways!

Today we welcome our friend Jill Hawkins back to the blog with two fantastic summer designs!

Hello All! I am super excited to be here today to share a couple cards using some goodies from the Essentials by Ellen June release and the Essentials by Ellen Summer of Stamping release. We need to celebrate the feel of summer as long as we can, so that was my goal again today.

On with the cards, shall we?!

It’s definitely not a secret that I adore the Good Day set—both stamps and dies, so I combined that with the Aloha set (and coordinating dies) and the It’s a Jungle from Essentials by Ellen Summer of Stamping to create this fun little tropical scene. (I like to think this is me coasting along in Kauai—wink wink.)

First, I thought I’d create a background with this tropical plant bundle from the Aloha set, stamping in Soft Granite Hero Arts ink. I started out stamping and diecutting a few of the images from these various sets. I’m never quite sure which ones I will want to use, so I tend to stamp and cut out many to arrange them, picking what works. I knew I was going to use this little beach cruising biker from the Good Day set, so I colored her with Copic Markers before cutting out. I then used some of the images from the Aloha set and the It’s a Jungle to mix and match in.

I tinkered around with arranging these. After deciding to white heat emboss the sentiment from Good Day using Versamark ink on navy cardstock, I decided to introduce the navy element to also ground the scene. I added some stitching details to finish it all off.

I used Foam Adhesive Tape to adhere all the sweet images. This turned out tropically delightful!

Next up, I just had to use the little convertible image from the Good Day set—repeatedly. So I decided to look through the sentiments from the All About You set and settled on the “are one of a kind”. (If you haven’t seen this All About You set, check it out because it die cuts all the sentiments out at once using the Nice of You die.) This sentiment drove the idea behind the design. I was going to use a softer pallet of colors, but after deciding to white heat emboss them, I knew I needed a dark cardstock in order for the convertible images to stand out.

There is a YOU stamp in the All About You set, but I wanted to use the All About You die with bright pink cardstock

First, I had to stamp and white heat emboss the car repeatedly, and the sentiment, using Versamark ink and Hero Arts Embossing powder. I loved having all those cute cars ready to go!

I wanted to put everything on a slight angle. I decided to add a little detail by embossing some lines on the panel first using my Score Board. This also helped to ultimately keep things lined up—bonus!

Once I had them all lined up and roughed out where I wanted them, I used some repositionable adhesive to tack them all in place. I did this so I could use my T-ruler to trim off all the cars. I’m not going to lie, that was slightly painful to cut off the cars! Why is that? Ha!

Once I had everything trimmed to fit, I then adhered my sentiment (adding some stitching) and adhered all the convertibles back into place, using Foam Adhesive Tape for some and regular adhesive for the others. That ‘up and down’ dimension gives the design a little pop of interest, in person.

This card feels a little “busier” that most of my designs, but the sweet simplicity of this illustration helps balance the universe back. 😉

I had such a good time making these summer cards in the depths of the afternoon heat, while taking full advantage of the AC. I feel like winter days and really hot summer days are the best for cardmaking sometimes. Do you do this too?

Here’s a quick little recap of all the Essential by Ellen stamps and dies I used today:

Thank you for spending a little bit of your day with me here today. I look forward to seeing what everyone in the craftiverse is making with these sets. Big thanks to the fabulous Ellen Hutson team for not only creating all these great goodies, but for having me along to share them today.

Oh—and in case you missed my previous post on the EH Blog, you can find a link to it HERE. I also had a couple of posts to celebrate the initial release of Essentials by Ellen Summer of Stamping and you can find those posts HERE and HERE on my blog. There are a few more cards there that hopefully inspire you to create more too!

Take care and stay cool everyone!

Jill
