Cardmaking, Essentials By Ellen

Holiday Cheer x 2 With Guest Jill D Hawkins

We welcome our friend Jill back to the blog! We’re true fans of Jill’s style and we think you’ll love her as much as we do.

Hello All! I am feeling the season changing drastically now and I love to have more time to get crafty (because outside is Brrrrrrrrr! Cold)—so being here today with you all is a delight!

I’m sharing a couple fun cards for the season, but I think the second one could be used anytime? These products are mostly all from the Essentials by Ellen Winter Release. Of course, I had to use my favorite set from this release, the Sweet Surprises set. And I adore the funny sentiments in the Sending Holiday Cheer set. They are a trip! J

Ok enough jibber jabber right? On with the cards!

First up, I had some fun with stamp kissing. For this, it’s always good to try and use a solid stamp. It’s not 100% necessary, as I’m sure we all have some stamps that aren’t solid-solid that work. But if this is new to you, start with a descent sized solid stamp.

This festive tree is from the Holly Jolly set. (There is a coordinating die set:  Holly Jolly Die.) I then kissed the tree with this scalloped pattern from the Wonky Backdrops set.

So first, I stamped the Holly Jolly tree with the Lawn Fawn Minty Fresh ink.

I then inked it up again with Lawn Fawn Minty Fresh ink and then kissed the tree with the Wonky Backdrops scallop stamp using Lawn Fawn Peacock ink(Please excuse my well-loved MISTI. It’s all fine and good until I need to take a process photo and I have to share how stained my pad is—LOL!)

The ink looks blotchy, until it dries—as you can see in the final photos. 😉

I then wanted to add a sentiment and while I like so many of them, I felt the one from Sending Holiday Cheer worked best for my design. So I laid that out and again used my MISTI to get it just right. I really dislike messing up in the final steps!

I finished this card off with the little starts stamped in gray and some simple stitching. I used my Score Board to create this card base. Just adds a little something to the card, I think, and I have a hard time not adding a scored line or two to my cards. J

This one is simple and festive, which is one of my favorite kinds.

Up next, I used the Sweet Surprises and Sweet Surprises Dies and colored these with Copic Markers before cutting out the gifts. Julie Ebersole’s little bear gets me every time. I might as well be on the auto ship program when he appears in any stamp set. Ha!

I really love to get laughs in the mail, but probably love to mail them more. So this sentiment from the Sending Holiday Cheer set, really drove this card. I have definitely used this sentiment before, so I tried to mix it up and use a different one, but I mean, this sentiment really encapsulates the crazy holiday season, doesn’t it? J These poor little guys are overwhelmed and toppling over. Too cute!

When it comes to Copic MarkersI really do just wing it. So I am definitely not the one to point you in the proper direction, but I did manage to take a photo of the Copic Markers I used. I know, it looks like an Easter egg assortment, doesn’t it?

I white heat embossed the bears with Versamark ink and Hero Arts Embossing powder on some dark gray cardstock while my gifts dried. I always get over anxious to color and if you do, sometimes the ink will smear when using Copic Markers.

I had fun messing around with placement on this card, and finally landed on three bears in stressful positions. J For the background, I used Ellen Hutson’s previously released Tiny Stars Background. This is meant for foiling, but I tend to use it as a die…. Shhhhhh. 😉

I added some blended inks to the base and finished off the panel with some stitching. I adhered all the packages and the bears with Foam Adhesive Tape.

Here’s a quick little recap of all the Essential by Ellen stamps and dies I used today:
