Hey friends! Tiffany here for Day 8 of the special 12 Tags of Christmas series. I’m loving the inspiration so far, and I hope you are too! One of my favorite, classic Christmas songs is “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” by Bing Crosby. I love the warm, cozy vibes of the song and its nostalgia. Did you know that this song has a backstory? It was originally recorded in 1943 to honor soldiers in WWII who longed to be home for the holidays. The song touched the hearts of many Americans, both soldiers and civilians, and is said to have helped troop morale during the war. It is still one of the most beloved Christmas songs. The song reminds me to be grateful that I can go home and be with family and friends each holiday. When brainstorming what to create, I initially thought I would create a tag that looks like a house, but instead I decided to do a little scene. Imagine coming home for the holidays and seeing your family through the living room window getting ready to decorate the tree – hot cocoa in hand, Christmas music playing in the background, the warm glow of the lights. That’s exactly what I wanted to portray with my tag.
To start, I created an oversized tag from a card base using the partial die cutting technique using a EBE Rectangle die. This is an easy way to create a tag that opens like a card. Next, I created a window and window frame using the EBE Winter Window. Between the two window frames, I adhered a piece of acetate and then adhered the frame to the tag front.
Inside of the card, did a little masking to ink blend a floor. I stamped and copic colored several images from Trim the Tree. I picked up on certain imagery or items mentioned in the song like presents under the tree or mistletoe and added them to my scene. Try stamping in Catherine Pooler S’mores ink if you want an alternative to black ink for outline images. I’ve never had an issue with bleeding when using my copics. Additionally, I added flat sequins to the tree for a little sparkle.
I finished the tag with a hot foiled sentiment from Holiday Cheer and icicles to the top of the window. I added Tim Holtz icicle texture paste for additional texture (which is hard to see in the photos, but check out the accompanying reel on IG).
