3 EGG-cellent Hot Foil Ideas, and That’s No Yolk!

Join Therese today for 3 fun EGG-stra special card ideas, and each one is very different!

Hi it’s Therese here, and did you know that eggs aren’t just for Easter? I have 3 very fun card ideas and they have two things in common, they ALL have ‘eggs’ and they ALL have Hot Foiling… so let’s get started!

Idea #1 – Repeat Design

Repeating a design on a card is a great way to create visual interest. You can can make block patterns with images or even scatter them for a more relaxed style. I chose to decorate 4 eggs and used different patterns for each, from the Elegant Eggs Hot Foil set.

PRO TIP: To save time, batch out the Hot Foiling for all the designs at the same time.

I blended different colors over the hot foiling for each egg. But you could repeat the same color or even blend different colors onto each egg.

The Essential Eggs nesting die set has every size ‘egg’ you will ever need. So, when I selected the die I ensured that it would fit comfortably 4 times on an A2 card.

Then I cut an Ivory panel for the background and splattered it with some gold metallic watercolor paint.

And I heat embossed an Antique Gold sentiment from the Ears to You Stamp Set.

I assembled the card and added dimension to the eggs using foam tape.

Idea #2 – Exchange Letters?

Have you ever tried this? Why not exchange the letters in a large sentiment with a focal point, image or shape, like I have done here. Today, I replaced the ‘O’s’ in Hooray with 2 golden eggs!

But first, I blended some ombre colors over the beautiful Marble Background Hot Foiled panel.

PRO TIP: Use rectangle nesting dies, such as these A2 Layers Dies, to die cut panels for card fronts. Then you know they will be the perfect size every time!

Next I added a sentiment from Winning Words, which I have die cut from Brushed Gold Cardstock and popped up on foam. I chose to replace the ‘O’s’ using 2 smaller egg shapes die cut from the gold cardstock.

Then I added a cute golden chick from the Sweet Spring Combo and now it’s a ‘Congrats on your baby’ card.

Idea #3 – Frame It

My final idea is to create a egg shaped golden frame, and this time, I decided to stop and smell the Mondo Rhododendron.

Now, don’t judge me yet, I did a little ‘no-line’ coloring with the Sketchmarker Brush Pro markers, and it always looks messy until…

… you add the outline (phew!). And this time, I added some Antique Gold embossing powder, but a black outline would have looked fabulous too.

I used the largest Essential Eggs Hot Foil plate to create the frame. Then I die cut some Ivory Cardstock with a coordinating Essential Eggs nesting die to sit inside the frame.

Next I popped up my flower in the centre and added a sentiment from the Ears to You Stamp Set.

PRO TIP: To ‘lengthen’ my flower, I simply cut the stem from the original image and adhered it separately to the rest of the bloom.

and all together now…

I hope that you have been inspired to create some EGG-stra special cards. And if you do, I’d love you to share them with me @lostinpaper, as well as @ellenhutsonllc. We can’t wait to see what you make!
